Welcome to Third Grade!
I believe that a good parent-teacher relationship is important for maximum school success. Throughout the year, I will communicate with you through Pupil Path, notes, telephone calls, and your child’s weekly communication folder. I am always available if you have any questions or concerns. IRLA (Reading Steps) Homework
EVERY night, students are expected to read for AT LEAST 30 minutes and log 2 steps into their 100 Book Challenge Reading Logsheet. Please remember that 1 step = 15 minutes of UNINTERRUPTED reading. Students should read their on-level books for the first 30 minutes, but may read other materials to earn extra steps. As always, students should also be practicing their power goals and using their skills cards to further enhance their reading.
Grading Policy
The following is VNA's school-wide grading policy:
Tests, Projects and Unit Performance Tasks = 50%
Classwork/Notebook/Class Participation = 20%
Quizzes/Quick Checks = 20%
*Homework = 10%
All grades may be found on Pupil Path.
*Homework assignments turned in 1 day late will receive half credit. Any assignment turned in after that will be marked "0" in PupilPath. (This does not apply to reading steps. Reading steps must be completed on the day assigned and logsheets must be signed by a parent in order to receive credit.)
Third Grade is now Departmentalized!
Effective in the 2018-19 school year, Grade 3 became departmentalized! What does this mean? This means that the Class 301 teacher will be teaching ELA and Social Studies, and the Class 302 teacher will be teaching Science and Mathematics! Students will be switching classes for these subjects. If your homeroom is Class 302, then an additional teacher will be switching with class 302.
